After getting on for a day in the air, a 12 hour time difference and crossing the date line I need to chill out, despite managing to sleep through the whole of the LA to Auckland leg of the flight. Having skipped Saturday completely I spend a lazy Sunday in Auckland.
New Zealand is the world capital of anything outdoors, especially if excessive amounts of adrenaline are involved. Nigel and Brent from First Light Travel suggest a rat-line/base jump from the Sky Tower. I am tempted, but not that early in the trip. I settle for a pleasant lunch at a waterside bar, watching dragon boat races and counting weirdly decorated life size cow sculptures grazing on the pavement.
Unusually for me I have no trouble waking early on Monday. Jet lag is working in my favour. I collect a rental car and head north. I'm on the road again.
